Coal Mining Blog Post
The massive coal dust explosion in West Virginia was caused by avoidance of safety rules and a methane ignition is what set it off. In the united states, each family who lost relatives in the explosion got 1.5million dollars. In china, the safety precautions were way lower and followed much less then in the united states. There wasn't even a monitering system. This particular mine was illegal and had been shut down and lost its license over a year ago. Each family of 17 victims of this mining accident recieved 10,000 yuan($1,577) for funeral expenses. Also, each dead miners family will recieve 660,000 yuan ($105,486.4) Gas explosions as well as fires and floods are really frequent in Chinas' coal mines. More accidents happen in Chinas' mines because they have far less safety precautions then we do in the USA. The difference between the compensation for american and chinese families is that the americans get far more more then the chinese do. Americans get $1.5 million opposed to china's $105,486.4 plus funeral expenses.
